The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems? Who's dead or who's not?。05年版的卡里加利。故事的主人公是喜欢魔法的高中生黒羽快斗，他的父亲是在8年前因事故而死亡的大魔法师·黒羽盗一。某日，他在房间一栋隐秘门中发现传说中的怪盗基德的衣服，于是他打算会见基德。在那里，他遇到了父亲过去的同伴·寺井，并得知父亲就是怪盗基德，而且死因不是事故死而是他杀。于是，快斗为查出杀害父亲的犯人，而自己成为了基德。 本作和《名侦探柯南》有不少共通点。例如怪盗基德在两作中均有出现、迷之组织的登场、主人公真正身份不被世人所知，等等，感觉就像是融合了魔法元素的柯南。。
