电影的故事围绕一位离婚了的单身父亲展开，他独自抚养儿子。当他开始约会寻找下一段浪漫关系时总是遇到各种问题，并产生了许多啼笑皆非的喜剧。。本片以三岛47年来持续面对的“某个事件”为基础，从自主电影制作开始。故事以北海道洞爷湖的中岛、东京伊豆群岛的八丈岛、大阪的堂岛为背景，围绕着重要角色“丽子”展开心灵的挣扎。以“乘船而去者”、“等待船来者”、“乘船而来者”及“方舟”为主题，描绘了三位心灵受创的角色，三个故事在此交错。当分别在不同“岛屿”上进行的故事因某个共同点交汇时，惊人的事实浮出水面。。During the 1977 El Salvadoran presidential election, public unrest is at an all-time high over fears of election fraud.
